&lt;div&gt;Eskelinen and Murray have contrasting methods for interpreting video games. While the former is concerned with form and structure, without regard to narrative, the latter focuses only on projecting her own narrative conceptions onto the medium. In reality, and in this class, we must meet in the middle. Video games, as we have seen, can function as a form of literature and art. However, they must retain their functions as ''games'' if they are to be kept within the genre. Perhaps what Murray describes is an interactive digital storytelling platform. She reads Tetris as a commentary on American's crammed and packed-in schedules, which Eskelinen views as grossly overstated as an interpretation. But certainly games like Bioshock and Fallout have much more legible depth of meaning. In the post-digital era, these games are taken as an undeniable factor in public entertainment and opinion. They cannot be removed from [[the]] genre of youth culture. Therefore, this debate becomes much more dynamic as games ''must'' be interpretted, even if they are, like Tetris, &amp;quot;just games.&amp;quot; In this era, new methods of interpretation, criticism, and exploration hold value, often in an incredibly public way.&lt;br /&gt;

So maybe it's my brain, but did Mr. Dworkin actually say something in this sentence?  I think he is trying to say there is an unbreakable link between writing and the idea put forth by the writing, particularly in his chosen examples of ''conceptual'' writing.  Um, duh?  Unless I have completely misunderstood him, which is entirely possible.  Likely, even.&lt;br /&gt;

Regardless, he seems to be making distinctions between notions of materiality and concept in literary forms,  Form over function? &lt;div&gt;The concept of video game criticism is highly interesting to me. When reading &amp;quot;Unit operations&amp;quot; of which of course I did not read in its entirety due to its length, I was stunned at the level of detail and analysis put forth into presenting the argument that video games may be analyzed in a contemporary fashion as with works of literature and other forms of art. I've always found video-games, even the most shitty and unplayable games, to be more interesting as an art form that some of the greatest classical pieces such as the Mona Lisa.  I first got into more abstract games by playing what are known as &amp;quot;indie-games.&amp;quot; These games are typically lesser known and published by  very small groups or independent developers. There are some [[unique]] ideas presented through video game format that are perhaps most effectively presented due to the interactive nature between the player and the game. I've also found that even more abstract concept stick with me because playing videos games in more of an &amp;quot;experience&amp;quot; then a &amp;quot;lesson.&amp;quot; My thoughts are currently that video games may be classified as electronic literature, especially with regard to visual novels, and even point and click adventures.&lt;br /&gt;

This reminded me of all the bots that plague the digital world and how they get worse with time. So a new problem arises. It's no longer a matter of what's real or what's fake; but rather who's real and who's fake. The dangers of fake information snaking through the internet have plagued our digital playground and thought bots have been around for quite some time (my earliest recollection was during the days of AOL Instant Messenger and Yahoo Messenger), bot presence has grown exponentially in social media. With Artificial Intelligence making daily strides in advancement how long will it be until bots can publish fake articles of their own? Or make fake YouTube videos of their own? Big corporations will hire top notch programmers and engineers to create new bots working around the clock to pump out new material, effectively killing the &amp;quot;little guy&amp;quot; and the true source of innovation! &lt;div&gt;Hui Kyong Chun's &amp;quot;The Enduring Ephemeral&amp;quot; reminded me of the professor in my history of writing class last spring quarter. In one of his first lectures, he confidently declared that the invention of writing eventually led to the degeneration of memory in humans. The class stared blankly at him, wondering how the invention of a system that was supposed to help us keep track of important details and records could actually make it harder for us to recall information. After a few minutes of pondering, however, we realized that the constant, reassuring presence of a written record lulls us into a false sense of security that lets us forget even the most basic of details. We can, after all, just look up anything we forget.&lt;br /&gt;
The advent of the Internet and the subsequent access to digital publications further propagates this notion, as printed or written information was still less accessible and thus more memorable than information that can easily be searched on the Internet from any mobile device. Hui Kyong Chun’s discussion of the temporality and speed of [[digital media]], as well as its impermanence and constant rebirth, really meshed with the professor’s lecture on the history of writing and reinforced the claim that the more accessible something is, the more easily forgotten it is, and thus a work can be forgotten and reintroduced in an instant.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>

&lt;div&gt;N. Katherine Hayles' text &amp;quot;Electronic Literature: What is it?&amp;quot; explores the [[meaning]] of electronic literature as it pertains to the year 2007. However, as we discussed in class on Tuesday, many technological advances have been made in the past ten years, rendering this text in some ways useless to people nowadays. I find it rather interesting that Hayles speaks so objectively and factual about a topic that is actually [[subjective]], as electronic literature means something very different to people currently than it did to people of previous generations ten years ago. While literature in itself can be timeless, as we may read books written hundreds of years ago and [[grow]] just as connected to each character in a book written this year. However, something that we touched upon in class resonated with me: electronics are advancing at such a quick speed that it makes electronic literature from one generation exceedingly different from that of another generation. This separates electronic literature from other forms of literature. While this distinction can make it difficult for a member of one generation to understand the electronic literature of a [[different]] generation, these distinctions are also very beneficial. The advancement of technology and electronic literature as a whole implies that we are constantly discovering new ways of [[understanding]] literature. Literature has grown into something that can be analyzed and manipulated, as opposed to something that must simply be read.&lt;br /&gt;

The game feels like a bad nightmare! It’s almost like my computer has been possessed and in order to exorcise it, I must beat it!&lt;br /&gt;
Level 3: Whenever I restart, the computer says “you purchased a farm.” I’d be lying if I said that this didn’t make me chuckle a bit. I do find the phrase “bought the farm” rather odd when referring to death.&lt;br /&gt;
Level 5: I was literally attacked by 101 Dalmatians. I didn’t know Disney could be so scary! The soundtrack sounds like a virus within the CPU is chanting for help. I dare not answer! Digital monsters must remain in captivity. Is this what Walt Disney intended all along?&lt;br /&gt;
Intermission: Finally! A chance to relax. There has been one instance in which a video game gave me the option rest during intermission. The other time was in a Mario game, which I found strangely odd.&lt;br /&gt;
Level 5: The first level to pose a real challenge. Avoiding the electrical bars too longer than I expected. The controls are tight so it wasn’t too difficult. I constantly look to the background to see what hidden messages I can decipher. Now I feel like I’m trying to escape from a computer before I get infected.&lt;br /&gt;
Ending: None of the rewards promised, I received!&lt;br /&gt;
Final thoughts: Interesting game. Superficially, it was a fun puzzle-platformer akin to games like Bubble Bobble or Solomon’s Key. Beyond that I felt like there was a deeper layer to explore. The scribble reminded me of something done on MS Paint. The bizarre levels were simple yet effective in their use of colors and deforming the screen. I applaud the programmer! Game design is a tough avenue but a one-man team can do a lot with some simple and clever innovations. Last thing, but I clicked on one of the videos and all it showed some home-footage shot at a graveyard. Afterwards, I couldn’t minimize or erase the video. It continually played and blocked my view of a portion of the level. The lesson to be learned is don’t click on everything simply because the computer says so! It could lead to a virus or just simply waste your time.&lt;br /&gt;

After being exposed to and enthralled by Alejandro Miguel Justino Crawford's ''Diana Hamilton's Dreams,'' I was reminded of a 2017 South African video game, ''n Verlore Verstand,'' that is accessible on several different consoles such as Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. Developed by Skobbejak Games, '''n Verlore Verstand'' is Afrikaans for &amp;quot;a lost mind,&amp;quot; and this sense of unhinged madness is the very essence of the game. As ''Diana Hamilton's Dreams'' attempts to unlock the subconscious and 'approach the truth of dreams...through the navigation and connection and layering of sounds and stories that, half-recognized, slip away when we try to tie them down...' (Kill Screen), ''n Verlore Verstand'' similarly seeks to journey through an uncanny, subterranean consciousness, one that falls outside of our immediate focal awareness. While gameplay varies across the different levels/worlds, from walking through barren and desolate fields to navigating murky and dungeon-like labyrinthine corridors, the fundamental theme is this realm of the unknown. What caught my interest this week was the dial-a-poem. What a feeling it must have been to listen to poetry heavyweights such as Ginsberg and Carrol and hear their works the way they were meant to be heard. For the 60's and 70's, this was a big deal. After reading the article, I opened up YouTube to get a sample of it, and was swiftly reminded about how spoiled our generation is. I listened to an excerpt from Jim Carrol's Basketball Diaries and thought about how easy it was to access. Poetry, in its pristine form, is usually spoken aloud. Dispersed before a live audience in either a lounge or a theater. Dial-a-poem helped to bring the raw emotional essence of a poem to the masses. Sure, broadcast television did the same on a grander scale but only when the sponsors allowed it. This was a direct precursor to YouTube, so much thanks to them! I didn't look into but does the service still exist? It may seem obsolete by today's standards but payphone collect call numbers still exist so there may be a chance!&lt;br /&gt;
