This past Thursday (October 26th, 2017) we did not have an in-class meeting, but instead chatted online about works we (my classmates and I) believe should be added to the syllabus. These include creative as well as critical works, which I think is important. I think this balance is important because while critical works set the foundation for understanding countless facets of electronic literature, creative works apply these concepts and allow us to view them in action. In the chat, we focused on creative works, such as videos and games. I had never seen these videos prior to engaging with my classmates, and it made interpreting these creative works much more exciting. This is because I was able to build my ideas or opinions off of my classmates' and vice versa. In other words, interpreting different works (such as creative works) becomes more insightful when your peers are also contributing their ideas on the matter. Turning reading and analyzing into a social activity is fascinating, and something that I had not deeply considered before taking this class.
