Contra (NES). "Start with 30 lives." At the start menu, input the following sequence: Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start. You should hear a sound effect of an explosion. You will begin the game with thirty lives instead of three. This code, popularly known as the Konami Code, works in other games such as Life Force (NES) and Gradius (NES). Trust us when we say this will make life easier.

Mike Tyson's Punch Out! (NES) "Fight Mike Tyson!" Type in the following sequence into the code bar: 007-373-5963. This code allows you to bypass all fighters and face Mike Tyson directly. But it will not help you in becoming a better player, nor will it make Tyson an easier opponent! Fight at your own risk.

Mortal Kombat (Sega Genesis). "Activate Blood." While the story text is running, type in the following button sequence: ABACABB. The text will turn red and you'll hear Scorpion say, "Get over here!" You may now enjoy the game the way it was meant to be played; with blood and gore! Admit it, you chose this one because its SNES counterpart didn't have the guts (pun intended) to go full gore! You can thank this game for the creation of the modern ratings system.

Super Mario Bros. (NES). "Find the Hidden Warp Zone." Towards the end of World 1-2, instead of entering the pipe use the ascending platforms to jump on top of the brick wall. Walk forward and you will drop into the Hidden Warp Zone. There are three green pipes, each respectively labeled with numbers two through four. Choose the number of the World you wish to advance to. For over one-hundred extra lives, warp to World 3.
