Poetry is alive and well! And we have the internet to thank. Digital Poetry has enlightened the minds, bodies, and souls of this generation. As a child, poetry was brought into my life through songs and nursery rhymes. As a high school student, poetry was brought into my life by force -- which completely changed my existing perception of poetry. I used to think poetry was fun, in fact I loved it. But, the moment a teacher forced me to analyze each word, tone, and meter, I began to hate poetry. This is why I love digital poetry and all things electronic literature. E-Lit and Digital Poetry allows the reader to pick and choose pieces that speak to them. Like Instagram poems, for example. It is so easy for a user to find a poem that speaks to them, then send it to their best friend who needs a pick-me-up. It is instant gratification, it's accessible, it's easy, and it's personalized. Books, although dear to my heart, don't have that same easy, instant gratification as it would take days for me to receive one in the mail. This is why poetry is going through a revival. Our new generation needs instant gratification, and Instagram poems do just that.
